Havok goes C#?

in

Check this out: Havok Recruitment Ad for a Software Engineer.

Desired skills:

  • Strong C# and .NET Experience
  • Managed DirectX
  • Experience with newer MS technologies: WPF/XNA/Vista
  • Knowledge of C++/CLI

Sounds quite a bit as if Havok was thinking about a managed interface to their physics library. C++/CLI indicates that it might be a managed wrapper, not a port (bad luck for us XNA/XBox360 people).

Sounds great, really means

Sounds great, really means the industry is recognizing XNA as something more than hobbyist. (since Havok would be licensed and not free)

Being licensed though would also mean that they would need to provide something of good quality that also works on the Xbox, so I think they would ensure it works on there as well. (their current middleware does already anyway)

Nice find though, hopefully we hear more soon. :)

This job posting does not

This job posting does not mean the Havok SDK(Physics, Animation, Behaviors) will be extended to work for games created with C#, XNA or otherwise. Havok provides many tools for content creation. The newer tools are written in C#. Besides, a Havok license is expensive enough that it rules out almost all development in XNA. I believe just a physics license can cost > 100k.
